The photos below show the components of a Basic GPS Data Collection / Vehicle tracking prototype. This project includes a Scorpion TC-01 microcontroller, a Magellan 10-channel GPS receiver card, and an ADTRON PCM card drive, patch antenna (not shown), connecting cables, manuals and program diskettes. The prototype enclosure, connectors, switches, panel lights/LED's and hardware are NOT included in the development kits. This page is an example of how to lay out the kit components for developing your application. The prototype shown is in the various stages of being built.
You will note the extensive use of BERG-type pin connectors throughout the design of this prototype. The push-on type connections are easy to change and move around, rather than having to unsolder and re-solder wires to the boards. Also added are six connections for TTL ground, +5vDC, and six 2.2k Ohm TTL pull-up pins. Each power supply voltage 15vDC, 12vDC, and 5vDC is monitored by a separete LED. Five LEDs are provided on the front panel with series resistors already in place. These LEDs can be wired to the TTL outputs and programmed to indicate whatever the programmer chooses. There is also a piezo-style beeper (visible in the second photo top right next to the case post) which can be sounded by bringing a TTL signal on the I/O connector low.
